The Writers Workshop
90 minutes of focused time to review and refine your grant application so it’s ready to submit
Wednesday 9th June 10 – 11:30AM
Wednesday 9th June 10 – 11:30AM
you’ve got a draft application but you don’t feel confident that it will be successful?
you’re struggling to find the time to finish your application and get it submitted?
you’re not sure whether you’ve included everything you need to in your application?
Sound familiar? You’re in the right place!
Write, review and refine and get ready to hit send on that application…
“It was the best and most reasonably priced training I have done so far. I have learnt so much and feel confident about moving forwards in this role. It’s the first time I’ve come away from a workshop and completely changed my application for the better. Extremely enjoyable, thank you.”
Have some focused time away from day to day distractions so that you can review your application and identify any weak spots
Understand whether your application is having the impact you want with an external audience
Get support with any parts you’re struggling to complete to get your application finished and ready to send.
I’ll cover the essentials of writing great applications – what to include as well as some tips and tricks to make your applications stand out.
During the workshop we’ll look at some example applications so you can learn how to improve your own.
You’ll have the opportunity to be paired with someone in a similar organisation so that you can exchange applications after the workshop and share feedback.
This is a really practical session so the focus is on doing the work to review and refine your application. You’ll need to have a draft application to work on.
"There was a great balance of useful information and speaking to a 'buddy' for feedback."
"Some really thought-provoking ideas that I have never even considered."
"It was so useful going over the components of a successful funding application. Thank you for a great workshop."

"Your presentation was a useful check list for applications when you are at a draft stage, in many ways it is the perfect time to attend a course like this as you aren't starting from scratch but have the basic components in place. I'm sure my application will be so much better once I've gone through the notes and changed things round."
a fundraising consultant, juggling family life with my husband and two boys whilst helping charities write better, more successful grant applications.
Over the years I’ve written, and read, hundreds of grant applications. I’ve seen what works and importantly, what doesn’t! Some of the funders I have secured grants from include the City Bridge Trust, Morrisons Foundation, February Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation, Henry Smith Charity, Reaching Communities and the Department of Health.
In 2018, I set up the Trust Fundraising Hub, a free Facebook community offering advice, support and inspiration to over 4,000 CEO’s, volunteers and fundraisers.
This workshop is best suited to people who have already drafted a grant application and want some dedicated time and support to make it as good as it could be. Although we’ll look at some principles of good applications through practical examples, you won’t have time to write your whole application during the workshop so you’ll need to have something in draft form to work from.
Yes the session will be recorded so that you can watch the replay if you’d like to. This is a practical, working session so if you can’t make it live but still want to join then please let me know so that you can connect with your feedback friend at a later time.
I will carefully match everyone with their own ‘feedback friend’ who will be someone working in a similar but distinct area of work (so for example, if you work for a hospice you might be matched with someone else working for a health charity, but not with someone who also works in a hospice to avoid any potential ‘competition’.) We'll do some short sessions in breakout rooms during the workshop so that you get to know each other and if you'd like to you can share your full applications after the workshop to gain that external feedback.
Whilst we’ll have plenty of time for questions, I won’t be reviewing every application. You will have the opportunity to work with your feedback friend on certain aspects of your application and you're very welcome to keep in touch with each other after the workshop to share your full applications for feedback.
